Alinea Suite – dictionary application

alinea Suite’s “Look Up” Windows application
Easily accessed via the alinea Suite PDF reading, and word prediction applications, the dictionary application includes the following Harper Collins dictionaries:
- English UK,
- US English,
- English to German
- English to French.
There is also a picture dictionary that can be edited, an invaluable tool for teachers and parents.
To demonstrate the dictionary, we have used two homophones – flower and flour. Sounding the same, but having a different meaning and a different spelling, homophones can pose difficulty for many dyslexic and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) learners.
Using one of the text-to-speech voices included with alinea Suite’s Windows application, the below videos show alinea Suite’s Harper Colins dictionary application giving the definition of flower, then flour. https://youtu.be/YfLWIFykdJA
Now for the word flour….

For those requiring further support, the picture dictionary is also available, and can be edited via Alinea’s glossary.
To demonstrate this, I edited the glossary’s entry for the word flour as there was no picture dictionary entry.
To give maximum support, the alinea Suite dictionary application can be accessed:
- via the PDF reading application by right clicking on a word
- via the word prediction menu
- directly from the dictionary application by entering a word
